The data shows which categories had the highest volume during that period, but it is not an approval rate and does not guarantee that any individual meets the requirements.

How many residency permits were approved?
The official report records 10,864 approved residency permits between January and April 2026. That figure combines different temporary, provisional, and permanent categories, so it should not be read as the number of new residencies of a single type.
Categories with the most approvals
According to the official breakdown by status, the five categories with the most approvals in that period were:
- Humanitarian Security Protection (PPSH): 4,195 approvals.
- Dependents: 1,696 approvals.
- Permanent regularization under Decree 235: 1,412 approvals.
- Employees or executives of multinational companies: 871 approvals.
- Specific Countries / Friendly Nations: 799 approvals.
Other categories on the list include marriage to a Panamanian citizen, family reunification through a Panamanian child, education-based reasons, retirees/pensioners (Pensionado), hiring under the 10% rule, the Panama-Italy Agreement, and professionals.
What this data means if you're considering applying
A higher number of approvals can reflect the size of the population using a category, active programs, or a backlog of case files. It does not mean that path is easier or that it can simply be chosen at will. Each permit has its own legal basis and requirements.
For example, an employment-based category requires reviewing both the immigration component and work authorization. A family-tie category requires proving the relationship and the sponsor's status. Investment or solvency-based paths require documents proving the source and structure of the funds or assets.

- Choosing a residency category simply because it appears among the most approved.
- Confusing a residency permit with a work permit.
- Using outdated requirement lists or documents downloaded from unofficial sites.
- Submitting foreign certificates without checking for apostille, legalization, or translation.
- Assuming that a nationality, job, or family tie guarantees approval.
