Panama’s Pensionado residency category is designed for foreign nationals who receive retirement or pension income and intend to settle in Panama. A central part of the file is proving that the income meets the characteristics published by the National Immigration Service.
Amount and lifetime nature
The official checklist states a general minimum monthly pension of B/.1,000 and requires the pension to be granted for life.
Who may pay the pension
Depending on the category, the certification may come from a foreign government, an international organization or a private company. The evidence should clearly identify the source and nature of the payment.
Private-company pensions
When the pension comes from a private company, the official checklist calls for additional documentation. Those requirements should be reviewed before requesting the pension letter.
Document consistency
The pensioner’s name, amount, payment frequency and lifetime nature should be consistent throughout the application file.
Official sources
This legal update is based on information published by Panamanian government institutions. Requirements, forms, amounts and channels may change, so the current official version should be checked again before filing.
